Capim™ Brazilian Clays

Capim’s kaolins have been produced in Northern Brazil since the mid 1990’s and have become firmly established as the high quality products of choice for the global paper and board markets and are increasingly finding application in other industries such as ceramics, fibreglass and paint and coatings.

The principal strengths of Capim’s products lies in the raw material itself. “Natural engineering” delivers a combination which cannot be matched sustainably from other global reserves;

  • high brightness
  • narrow particle size distribution
  • low abrasion
  • consistent chemical purity

Capim for Paper and Board Applications

Capim’s clays are used in filling and coating applications where they offer the perfect combination of high brightness, narrow particle size and low abrasion resulting in optimal brightness, opacity and printability. Performance in paper and board is mostly linked to the physical characteristics of Capim’s clays.

In filling applications, the optical benefits are evident compared to conventional filler clays and the natural purity ensures low abrasion and less wire wear on the paper machine.

In coating applications, the combination of high brightness, a narrow particle size distribution and low surface area give benefits to optical properties in paper and board while also improving paper strength, reducing the need  for expensive latex binders. Capim’s clays also benefit from a good intrinsic rheology ensuring ease of application in high speed coating applications.

Capim’s clays are also well suited to specialty paper applications where consistent quality and chemical purity are paramount. Capim’s clays are the leading choice for label papers and release applications

Ceramics and Fibreglass

Capim’s clays are increasingly being used in these markets as a result of their chemical and physical consistency. Capim’s clays provide a high alumina content together with a clean mineralogy and low iron and alkali content. Low coarse particles and low fines content can also help performance in Ceramic and Fiberglass applications.

In Ceramics, Capim’s clays help to reduce defects, give consistent firing, high fired whiteness and improved casting rates in porcelain and white ceramic applications such as tableware, tiles and sanitary ware.

In Fibreglass, Capim’s clays provide a high natural source of Alumina and can improve thermal and mechanical properties. The low coarse particle content reduces equipment abrasion and maintenance cost.

Sustainable Production

Minimising the environmental impact is a cornerstone of our production ethos. We actively seek to maximise raw material recovery through portfolio optimisation while also offering a range of final product forms including slurry, granulate and tube pressed materials which minimise energy use and carbon footprint. Active reforestation programs ensure minimal impact to the local environment.
