Access to technology and professional qualifications are transforming the lives of residents of the Nossa Senhora Aparecida community, in Ipixuna do Pará, close to Artemyn kaolin mine, in Brazil. Since January, 40 students have participated in the Computer Operator course, by the National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI) with Artemyn support. Classes take place in a mobile unit installed in the courtyard of the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Elementary School.
Eduarda Cunha da Silva, 19 years old, is a student and wants to take the entrance exam for Law University. She says that the course is important for meeting other people and improving communication. “I found out about the course through my cousin and thought it was a unique chance. He is very important to me, helping me with personal development. I want to be able to help other people with what I’m learning,” he says.
With classes in the afternoon and evening shifts, the training serves residents aged 16 and over. The objective is to offer technical knowledge in IT, increasing the employability of participants and strengthening local development.
Another participant in the course is Creuza Pereira dos Santos, who works as a Community Health Agent. She highlights the importance of computer learning for her working routine. “Soon we will start my projects on the computer and we will send all the information through the system. So, with this course, I will be prepared to use the computer at work”, she explains.
The initiative reinforces SENAI and Artemyn’s commitment to professional qualification and the growth of the communities where they operate. “Empowering people is essential to boost socioeconomic development. This course brought practical knowledge that can be applied in everyday life and in the job market”, says Fábio Assmann, socioeconomic coordinator at Artemyn.

“The course is running as expected. Both Artemyn and SENAI are always providing the necessary support so that the course runs smoothly and objectively. The students are committed and focused on learning, carrying out practical tasks with dedication, and whenever they experience difficulties, they ask to explain the content again,” said Rodrigo D’Ávila, IT instructor responsible for the classes.
The course will offer certification to students.
